Privacy Policy

The Short Version

Your photos, your books, your flashcards, your notes — they all stay on your iPhone. We never see them. We have no servers. We have no analytics. We don't know who you are or what you're reading.

Camera and Photos

Kanshu uses your device camera to capture images of book pages for text recognition. These images are:

• Processed entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework
• Never uploaded to any server
• Never shared with any third party
• Stored locally on your device only if you choose to save a page to your library

Text Recognition (OCR)

All text recognition is performed on-device using Apple's built-in Vision framework. No text is sent to external services for processing. The recognized text is stored locally on your device as part of your saved pages.

Dictionary Data

Kanshu includes a bundled dictionary (CC-CEDICT) that runs entirely offline. Dictionary lookups do not require an internet connection and no lookup data is transmitted anywhere.

Flashcards, Notes, and Highlights

All study data — flashcards, notes, highlights, bookmarks, and SRS review history — is stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Third-Party Integrations

Kanshu offers optional integrations with third-party apps (such as Pleco, Anki, and others). When you use these integrations:

• Data is shared only when you explicitly trigger an export or deep link
• Only the specific data you're exporting is shared (e.g., a single word lookup or a flashcard deck)
• Each integration is opt-in and can be disabled at any time in Settings
• We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party apps

iCloud Sync

If you enable iCloud sync, your book data, flashcards, and study progress are synced across your devices using your personal iCloud account. This data is protected by Apple's iCloud security and encryption. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Analytics and Tracking

Kanshu does not include any analytics frameworks, tracking pixels, advertising SDKs, or crash reporting tools. We do not track your usage, behavior, or any other activity within the app.

Children's Privacy

Kanshu does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since the app collects no personal information from any user, it is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page with the new date. Given that we collect no data, significant changes are unlikely.
